Emergency Management
Every incident is preventable but in the rare case when something does go terribly wrong being prepared ensures an effective, coordinated response to contain and control any incident to minimize harm to people, property, the environment and company operations.
To coordinate and prepare for incidents in advance, employers must develop and maintain emergency response programs and response contingency plans. Emergency response programs guide the creation, management and implementation of an employer’s ERPs, allowing for quick access to critical information, coordination of multiple-responder activities, and identification of predetermined equipment and services available for deployment in an emergency.
On-site company incident responders are required to undergo hands-on training and must participate in emergency response exercises that ensure personnel understand their incident command structure, communication methods, and responsibilities in an emergency event.
Requirements for emergency management response programs are designed to create a framework for the protection of the public, emergency responders, property and the environment from incidents occurring due to activity outside the scope of normal operations. An incident is defined as a present or imminent event or circumstance, resulting from an activity that is outside the scope of normal operations, and may or may not be an emergency.
In the event of an emergency, a framework for the protection of property and the environment is built into regulatory agendas and mandates the complete clean up and remediation by the owner of the company, and assurance that all problems have been fixed before normal operations resume.
