Fire Suppression Safety and the BC Wildfire Crews

The Province regularly calls on the services of contractors to support the delivery of wildfire management in British Columbia. Private contractors are called upon by the BC Wildfire Service to deliver First Aid Standby to the wildland fire environment in the form of qualified OFA Level 3 personnel along with fully stocked Mobile Treatment Centre`s driven by operators holding a class 4 license.

Wildfire Crews

Private contractors are always looking to add qualified professionals to their applicant list that are looking for meaningful, part-time jobs and on call positions. Maturity and experience are highly valued qualities when being hired for these positions, if you are someone who can jump right in and do the job private contractors want to hear from you.

First Aid Standby Services deliver support to four distinct types of crew within the BC Wildfire Service (initial attack, rapattack, parattack and unit crews). These crews are comprised of Type 1 firefighters and in British Columbia the challenging landscape combined with the harsh wildland fire environment require Type 1 firefighters to be physically fit, highly trained and skilled individuals. The BC Wildfire Service has 1,100 Type 1 firefighters who annually respond to nearly 2,000 fires on behalf of the province of B.C.

In addition, the First Aid Standby Services support contract crews (Type 2 firefighters) who are often called on to assist with wildfires that have lower intensity and present a lower risk to firefighter safety. These contract crews are typically used on wildfires that are contained, under control or in the mop-up stage. Anyone possessing a valid S-100 Basic Fire Suppression and Safety certification is encouraged to contact local fire suppression contract crew companies for possible employment opportunities.
